The challenge
A European Bundesbank was faced with the challenging task of setting up a secure, standardized and highly available integration platform in order to seamlessly integrate into the European banking ecosystem.
As part of the further development of the Eurosystem Single Market Infrastructure Gateway (ESMIG), bidirectional, trouble-free communication between European banking partners and the internal core systems had to be guaranteed. These included payment systems, billing platforms and business-critical IBM Db2 databases.
The challenge was not only technical, but also systemic in nature: the aim was to ensure secure data exchange, consistently comply with regulatory requirements and guarantee uninterrupted transaction processing across institutional boundaries. An enterprise integration architecture was required that would process sensitive financial data with maximum resilience, scalability and transparency.
Our solution
To meet these requirements, we implemented the IBM Integration Bus as the central Enterprise Service Bus ofthe bank's integration landscape.
The solution created a secure and standardized communication layer between the bank's internal systems and the external partners in the ESMIG network. The development of robust message flows, transformation services and routing mechanisms enabled reliable bidirectional data exchange across the entire European banking network.
A particular focus was placed on end-to-end security, high availability and strict governance requirements. The integration layer protects sensitive financial information while supporting high transaction volumes and meeting real-time processing requirements.
Structured architecture planning, disciplined implementation and close coordination with all stakeholders resulted in a scalable ESB foundation that meets regulatory standards and supports future infrastructure developments in the European financial ecosystem.
The result
The implemented integration platform now serves as a secure backbone for the bank's participation in the European financial infrastructure.
Critical financial data flows seamlessly between external banking partners and internal payment, settlement and IBM Db2 systems, ensuring reliable transaction processing and continuous operations.
The bank benefits from:
- Improved system interoperability between European institutions
- Secure, regulatory compliant and auditable data exchange
- High stability and performance in transaction processing
- Future-proof integration architecture that meets ESMIG standards
With the IBM Integration Bus as its central ESB, the European Bundesbank has strengthened its operational resilience, met regulatory requirements and improved its ability to operate efficiently within the interconnected European banking system.
